Paulownia Tomentosa (also known as the Empress Tree, Princess Tree or Foxglove Tree) is a deciduous tree in the genus Paulownia and family of Paulowniaceae.
It is one of the fastest trees in the world as it can grow up to 6 meters during a good year while it is young! Makes for an excellent bosai as its rapid growth doesn't require the time thats needed for other trees to start looking like a real small tree!
It is native to China and also vietnam, laos and eastern asia. It grows as tall as 20m and has large heart shaped green leaves. Its flowers colors range from pik to purple and they produced in the early spring on panicles. Many People are unaware that the paulownia tree produces fruit which is c.ose to a dry capsule containing thousands of really small seeds.
The fast growth of the paulownia trees have made the tree a great candidate for use such as boat building surfboards and in many other categories of the saw timber industry. Also paulownia's are widely used for growning bees!
Paulownias are used as ornamental trees as well since its beautiful leave colors make for a great spectacle during spring. The princess tree takes its name from a... queen! These trees were named in honour of Anna Paulowna, queen consort of the Netherlands!
Its wood is very light, fine grained and it is good at resisting warping so it is used for making boxes and chests as well as guitars.
Also known as the phoenix tree, paulownias once harvested they can regrow from their existing root system!
